Vertebrate animals
Remember, vertebrate animals have backbone.
We can classify vertebrates into five groups: mammals, birds, fish, reptiles and amphibians.
Mammals
- They usually have hair or fur.
- They breath with lungs.
- Mammals feed their babies with milk.
- They are warm blooded.
- Some mammals live in water but most live on land.
Birds
- They have feathers and wings.
- They breath with lungs.
- They lay eggs.
- Birds are warm blooded.
- They have two legs and two wings.
Fish
- They live in water.
- They have scales.
- Fish use fins to swim.
- They breath with gills.
- They are cold blooded.
Reptiles
- They have scales and dry skin.
- They breath with lungs.
- They have 4 legs or no legs at all.
- They are cold blooded.
- Reptiles live on land and in water.
Amphibians
-They have moist skin.
-When they are young they breath with gills, but later they develop lungs.
-They are cold blooded.
-Amphibians can live in water and on land.

Invertebrate animals
Remember, invertebrate animals DON´T have backbone.
We can classify invertebrates into three groups: molluscs, arthropods and worms.
Molluscs
- They have a soft and muscular body.
- Many of them live in the sea.
Arthropods
- It´s the biggest group of invertebrates (insects, spiders, scorpions…).
- Their bodies have three parts: head, thorax and abdomen.
- Many have anthennae and wings.
Worms
- They have a long and soft body.
- Some live on land and some live in the water.
- Some worms are parasites, which means that they live inside or on the skin of other animals and feed on them.
